My Ryobi weedwhacker died, I liked what I read about this Hitachi elsewhere, and I had some hope of fitting my now-useless Ryobi saw, blower, etc. onto this unit (I believe that Ryobi is the same size as several other brands that take attachments) but even though they look extremely similar in photos, the Ryobi devices will not mate with the Hitachi. One is too big for the other to fit by a small margin. Perhaps this winter I will look for a way to modify or adapt them to do so. I do like the Hitachi's operation and handling very well and recommend it, but Amazon ships it in the "store box" only, so check for damage carefully, there are parts rattling around inside. Earlier I had purchased one from Amazon's Warehouse Deals (a returned item apparently) at a small discount over "new" and they had not taped the box well enough before shipping, it arrived virtually destroyed with parts missing from the box. Taped it up again, shipped it back at Amazon's expense and ordered a new one which got here OK.

Over the years have wasted $100 or so on the disposible Toro, echo, etc... Models. The Hitachci model is very nice and well built. Only problem I had was loosing the use of the old tiller adaptors from the old trimmer. But I would rather have one that actually starts so hince the Hitachi. 7 year warranty.
Took it out of the box, small issue on assembly needed a little wd40 on the shaft to attach to the engine unit. Added gas and it started on first pull, also able to start while standing up with unit on shoulder.
Trimmed entire yard on tank of fule. Old trimmer needed an extra fill up at times. Have not done any brush cutting yet.

This is the best trimmer i've owned. I can feel the quality when I hold it and use it. It is also very powerful. I'm very surprised with what i got for the price. I'm not crazy about the tap feed, but this is a matter of preference and relatively inexpensive to change. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the best bang for the buck when it comes to trimmers.
