General Electric 23292 Review by Anton Lord Toasterforce
There is nothing special about this preamp, but thus far for me, it's done what it was meant to do. You'll need to provide your own extra RCA cable to hook up to your receiver/speaker system, as well as either a 9V battery or AC adapter, but for the low price I paid for this, I didn't see much reason to complain. As far as the quality of the sound goes, you won't do much better unless you're an audiophile with at least $200 to spend on this (and only the former descriptor applies to me). Listening to my records with a full-range stereo system on a high quality turntable and this preamp in between is quite the improvement over the $99 Crosley record/CD/cassette/radio combo I got at Target some years ago, anyway. In fact, if you're not planning on spending at least $200 on a phono preamp, I highly recommend getting this one.

I was at wits end trying to get one of my 6 stereo receivers to push the sound of my record player. Given, some of them are 30-40 years old and might need some tuning themselves. Anyways, I have a Stanton T.52 table, and I got a newer (2009) Sony 200w stereo receiver to hook up to it, figuring that I just needed a working receiver. The sound still barely trickled out of the speakers as the volume cranked to 50+. It was either my record player was bad, or maybe this sound needed to little boost. My wife did some searching and came across this little gem. I figured, I will drop this last 20 dollars and if it doesn't work, everything goes in the closet till I can afford to pay someone to figure it out. Well, it sure does work. It works great. Pop in a 9volt battery and your in business! I have a mild case of OCD and just need to ground out the buzz, and I'll be happy. haha. All in all, this is well worth the money. If your getting very little sound out of your record player, and have made sure needle, player, and receiver, aren't at fault, and neither have a built in amp, than this is what you need.
General Electric 23292 Review by Stephen C. Knowles (New York)
I have a fairly good collection of jazz LPs, but hadn't been able to play them for about 20 years due to lack of a stereo setup to play the old turntable (signal from older turntables is too low for broadcasting through modern receivers). I searched for a product to record on my laptop, and this came up. Other reviewers complained of a hum, but I don't have that, except once, and re-booting the laptop stopped it. I use fantastic, free software, Audacity, to record to the PC, and then convert to MP3. I have a Phillips MP3 player, which doesn't like the Audacity MP3 files, so now I convert wav files from Audacity into MP3 using "freerip3" software (yes, also free). It's great to hear my album music again, many which are still not available on CD. Some reviewers have stated "you get what you pay for" and suggest much higher cost products produce a superior result. However, if you are playing your music on a portable MP3 player, or probably even on a car stereo, you probably wouldn't be able to detect any sound difference from the high-end amps. So if you want to possibly increase the sound quality by 1%, but pay 10x as much, go ahead. For my money, this product does everything I wanted.
